Lady cut off at the ankles, cat lost his upper legs! What a cruel place this is.
next the fairy sized person will be crushed by her hand. Stories over.
As I recall, “A Story Short” was an old Russian folk tale about a professional storyteller in the Czar’s court who was running out of stories to tell his ruler and couldn’t think of a new one to tell to save his life, and then had a series of bizarre adventures that helped him have a story for that evening after all.
If that fairy (or faerie, to use a somewhat less controversial spelling) in the gal’s hand is five stories short, then that probably means this is a book of five stories she would have told if the gal had given her enough time to think of them instead of immediately crushing her for coming up short.

“A Story Short” is exactly what came to mind when I saw this. 🙂
