Number 2412 in the series of those covers that drive me most nuts: the ones that are almost good…but then ruined by ham-handed design, graphics or typography…

I was/am not sure what the lurking red-eyed gray thing was holding–at first I feared it was a vuvuzela–but it looks like a cane or walking stick. Its calf is bigger than its thigh. To me the thing is not menacing or foreboding. Often more is clutter and less is better.

At 1469 x 2204 pixels the forest trail background has that zoned blocky look you get from too many saves-as-jpg. One needs better resolution in a print cover, even for an ebook, for print should always be an option/ambition.
