The Once-Dead Girl

Appropriately enough, “Book 0” of the series.

She shapeshifted into a bad render!

Can a never-alive girl really die?

Plus, it’s a shame there are no harbor pictures available on the internet. The poor author had to settle for this 1970s photo, judging by the building architecture behind pseudo-gal.

You got me curious regarding the harbor, so I ran it through Google, and to my surprise, it immediately coughed up the words Monte Carlo, it’s freaking scary. It indeed appears to be Monte Carlo harbor: http://previews.123rf.com/images/arsty/arsty0801/arsty080100026/2455366-Panoramic-view-of-Monaco-harbor-Monte-Carlo–Stock-Photo.jpg . What are the chances that any of the book actually happens in Monte-Carlo?

Scary that you could pull it up so easily. Seeing the larger shot, my guess of the 70s was wrong. Shame the photo was cropped to the older buildings, missing the newer yachts and cruise ship. A better cropping would have raised the cover from Grade AAA Bad to just Grade AA Bad.

Very scary. I thought there wouldn’t be enough of the landscape for it to recognize it. Yeah, a better cropping might’ve helped, slightly.

Posrein: the effects on the font aren’t awful. Too bad the color of the byline makes it illegible.

This cover makes me think of a poorly designed A.G.T. stunt: girl floating in helium bubble over marina catches two javelins in midflight. I can hear in my mind’s ear her scream as she becomes the Once-Dead Girl. Tragic.

Wouldn’t that be the twice-dead girl?
