So “mystery meat” is like “false flagging” except that you have no idea what kind of book the cover would be intended to deceive you into believing it is.
There’s an immortal bit of dialog in the most-forgettable Clint Eastwood movie PINK CADILLAC, in which Clint shows a fugitive’s photo to a motel owner, who remembers him distinctly as a Mr. John A. Asshole:
CLINT: And you didn’t think that might not be his real name?
MOTEL OWNER: There are a lot of things you could choose to call yourself. I figured he’d only call himself ‘Asshole’ if he had to.”
