I just looked it up and scientists did not invent high definition air until 1931.

This is historically accurate.

But, but color was not invented until about Oct 1938, one-quarter of the way into the production of “The Wizard of Oz”.

It’s not “blurry” — it’s artistic license…

The building in the background is in sharper focus, but the people in the foreground are blurry. Story is set in 1642 when the craft of photography just wasn’t supposed to be well developed.
