The Sentinels

I’m pretty sure this is swiped artwork, because you don’t do this to something you actually paid for.

The brown splotches on the guy’s legs are probably where the copyright was at. :/

Doing this to a drawing should be illegal. And I don’t mean just art theft. This makes me want to take whoever did it into a dark alley and beat the shit out of him. This cover is an entire new level of “I don’t give a fucking fuck”.

Tell me about it! They’re beautiful characters that somebody probably slaved over, and to have their art just brutally violated all over the cover, it’s sick. The artist probably doesn’t even know.

And it would be impossible to find the originals, especially since these characters are probably from different drawings, by the look of the badly cut out male character. Maybe that’s for the best, cause if the original artists saw this, it would probably break their heart.

I guess it’s possible that they know the artist, but still, cutting and MS-Painting the shit out of their painting like that’s inexcusable.
Either way, this is such a kick in the face to all artists ever.

Considering what we know of Baron LeSade’s “style” from the many many many other covers of his that have featured on here, I’d say somebody let him near the family liquor cabinet, some World of Warcraft artwork, and the “magic wand” tool on his image editor again.

Pretty sure that’s art from Stanley Lau (at least the elf lady.) His style is pretty familiar to me. Not sure on the guy but it might be a d&d swipe; looks vaguely familiar.

Artgerm? He stole from freaking Artgerm? That’s some nerve. He couldn’t find a less well known artist to rob?

Will you inform him or shall I?

Ha, didn’t see this until you’d already done it. 😃

It wasn’t me. I would’ve gone straight to Artgerm, it didn’t even occur to me to report it on Smashwords.

That’s damn audacious. Glad someone found the original. But think, if it was an obscure artist, justice may never have been done, and the art would forever be tarnished as this lazy ass book cover.

..Shudder.

Yeah, definitely. But, stealing from Artgerm is like stealing a song from JLo. You’re gonna get busted.

Here’s the link to the original artwork: http://artgerm.deviantart.com/art/English-Archer-279864666 and the artist’s website where you can reach him: http://artgerm.com/misc/

It’s nice to know there are still places that care about art theft. Thank you, AJ.

Oh, for fucks sake, he even changed the aspect ratio. Why? She wasn’t thin enough in the original? I don’t even… Can this get any more insulting? Nathan, could you please humor me and add the aspect ratio tag? Hope I’m not bothering you too much with such requests?

I kind of wish there was a ripoff tag too.
This reminds me a lot of a cover that showed up here like a couple months ago maybe that has like a bunch of Deviantart pieces just cut and pasted together, does anyone remember that one?

Oh OK. Newbie, didn’t know. I don’t think there’s a worse internet ideology than “everything’s here for me to pretend it’s mine”.

A new cover is up on SmashWords, so yey for that. It looks like he paid for this one and only marginally butchered it. I can understand the lady having a nuclear green glow now, but what’s with the magic-wanded patch in the lower right corner? In the thumbnail, it almost looks like a sea of nuclear goo.

Be honest, would you invest more in a cover for a 62 page long smut? He ain’t writing literary fiction here.

It doesn’t even deserve to be called literary nonsense.

I looked inside to check the page count, and to be fair, aside from an info-dump opening, it’s not that bad. But the first scene is still two characters jerking each other off :/

Well true, the book itself may not be a travesty, not in the world of smut especially.
It’s just that I’ve found in my never-ending search for awful books that a lazy cover usually equals an even lazier book. At least he fixed it though.

That usually is the case, that’s why I’m always surprised when I open a book with this kind of a cover and find even semi-decent writing inside. Although the info-dumpy start itself makes it bad enough in my book.
