The travelers depicted in this novel journey through a time of unprecedented climate change. Warming earth temperatures begin to significantly melt arctic permafrost releasing long stored methane gas. The released methane reaches a level in the atmosphere that causes global temperatures to rapidly rise beyond all predictions. The accelerated warming of the planet then triggers additional climate tipping points affecting ocean and atmospheric currents.
Global weather becomes wildly unpredictable and dangerous. Mankind experiences extreme heat waves, violent and lethal storms, flooding, drought, massive dust storms, and mega fires. Nations fall and humankind faces annihilation from an increasingly hostile environment.
The near future in which the characters exist and struggle for survival is an apocalyptic landscape of humankind’s own making.

The novel creates a complete portrait of a ruined world devastated by mankind’s own actions. The world that is portrayed, the characters, and the action that occurs follows in the tradition of ‘The Stand’, by Stephen King, ‘The Road’ by Cormac McCarthy, and ‘The Postman’ by David Brin
I look in vain for any indication of who of what these characters are or what they do.
Eh, this reminds me of the “elevator pitch” for Bloodlines over on Cover Critics that wasn’t so much a pitch for the story as a (rather overlong) description of its setting. Any prospective reader looking at this “summary” who hadn’t already given up and moved on after the first two or three paragraphs (as the vast majority would have already) would likely say “All right, so the world’s being destroyed by apocalyptic climate change and yadda yadda yadda, but what’s the story here? Who all’s in this situation and what are they actually going to do about it?”
