I was thinking that too, but it would have to be higher up so the boy gets it straight on, but it’s more diffuse for the girl.
My take is that it’s on the back of her head, toward her left side.
Maybe a very small Coleman lantern got caught in her hair en route, and she’s too mission-focused at the moment to brush it out

The selection of mixed light sources is done deliberate to create an “uncanny valley” effect in the eye of the beholder to enhance the eeriness of the cover.
There’s a lamp on her back.
