In today’s installment of New Covers For Old 2021, almost everything is an improvement. But still, very few of these covers reach the level of “good.” I guess that’s too high a bar to expect.
Anti Gravety—the only improvement is that “Gravity” was spelled right the second time around.
Pappy—0
Earth—It’s really not saying much when the best one can say is that it is not as bad as the first one.
Bird—(yawn)
Doll House—the image could have made for a really creepy cover, but it was wasted—and, as usual, the layout and type are the culprits
Heaven—(yawn)
Mona—the original wasn’t a half-bad idea that just needed better execution…the new cover is just plain terrible on every level.
Dufflemeyer—The winner of Let’s See How Many Things I Can Cram Onto the Cover.
Say No More—you know, graphically, this could be made to work with just a little more thought—but it hasn’t even the barest hint of a suggestion of what the book is about.
Battered Spirit—the remake is a great-looking even if the type is a little misplaced…but it doesn’t give anyone even a clue about the subject of the book. (In fact, the title, image and tag line all suggest something very different to me.) I’ll take a battered shrimp instead, thanks.
The new Battered Spirit would be a lovely cover for a literary fiction novel about a victim of domestic violence building a new life for herself. Unfortunately, the book behind it seems to be urban fantasy.
I agree. A nice cover for an entirely different book.
Can we talk about how Masters of Plagues updated cover somehow got worse. New ways to clutter collage it all on the front!
