For me, The Songs of Skygrass is a success, the title sounds badass. Obviously, the real winner is Teleporter but the pinecone made me giggle.
Yeah. I don’t get the pinecone at all.
You might want to go to Songs Amazon page and click on the preview so you can see the cover full screen. The art is not remotely professional and the type is just dropped on top of it without any real apparent effort at thinking about style, placement or color.
I agree: I have no idea what that pinecone is supposed to be doing there.
Maybe the pinecone is like what Louis Armstrong said about jazz: If you have to ask, you won’t understand the answer.
(Probably not. But maybe.)
It’s one of those “but, but, but, when you get to chapter 24, you’ll see how important that pinecone really IS!” things.
Meh, you only like the title. The cover itself…well, the nicest words for it would be “barely mediocre.” And you know it, dude. 🙂
I actually liked the guy with the dog. Dark Titan Journey. I don’t mind the post-apocalyptic grunge typography, either.

Songs—0
Dark Titan—Better, but hobbled by bad typography
Scout Brooks—A lot better…but I wish that the various elements of the art had been a little better integrated
Revelations—Probably got worse if anything
Father Figure—0
Petoony—I would never have thought it could have gotten worse
Lasting Love—Maybe ditto
Undying Vengeance—In both cases not half bad art shot down by inept typography
Teleporter—Well, it is certainly better but I wish the cover A. wasn’t quite so much a collage and B. made some sense
Both version of the Scout Brooks Story look like it’s a book about a school shooting. The old looks like a shit cartoon the shooter made the other looks like the school will be shot up by a character from Anthem…
Yeah, ‘cuz, nothin‘ says lasting love like spending the buckeroos on a Lucida H/W font….
