New Covers For Old 2021: Day VIII

Feel the need for a populist uprising? Want to sound your barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world? I’m not saying that voting in the first annual Lousies awards will fulfill that need but… yeah, okay, I am saying that.

Today’s installment of New Covers For Old 2021 showcases some true improvements, as well as some misspent effort, and at least one firm step backward.

“Go Go Girl”—no go cover.
“Druid King”—well, that certainly is an improvement
“Troubleshooters”—still in trouble
“Syndi”—took a turn for the worse
“Is the Grass Greener”–it might be but the cover is no better
“Mary Sumeridge”—again, only better by contrast
“Sports the Olympics Forgot”—illustrated by…what?
“Skin Deep”—not even close
“Dream Come True”—see comment about “Mary”…and even then I doubt that there was really an improvement
“Haven”—uh huh, sure

My only, only issue with Druid King, which I agree was hugely improved, is that the cover designer didn’t stand back and look at the “glowy balls” around the author’s name, and when you glance at it quickly, they imply quotation marks. Just…just glance at it and then look away. You just see or think “are there quotation marks around that guy’s name”? 😉

I am not crazy about the superfluous bubbles either. They add zero to the cover.

Sydni…oh, dear. The first cover was too busy, but at least it gave me the impression of a woman involved in a Satanic plot with potentially world-wide implications. The second cover gives me the impression of a woman who’s working on redoing the insulation in her attic.

Haven originally was a Zomie tale.

Changing to the over-used Zombie genre is not an improvement.

Holy cow! It’s a four-book series and every cover is identical!
