A fictional travelogue? A thriller about a drowned woman? An SF novel about watery vortexes? Can’t tell what it’s about, except, thanks to the label “a novel” we at least know its not a how-to about floating in the air next to a whirlpool, carrying a suitcase.
Whew the book sample is something worth gawking at too. 1st paragraph: we’re on an airplane. 2nd: in the US, about to get on the airplane. 3rd: on the street in Italy, getting a cab.
I have brain whiplash now.
The five star review at the top compares this book to Gatsby and Old Man and the Sea. I want whatever this author is smoking.
The cover . . . could use some help. Is she underwater, or falling into water? And WTF is that thing by her suitcase? A demonically possessed wig? A demonically possessed sea monster?
No, don’t bother. I stopped caring back in ’87.

I think she’s sinking to the sea floor (although why is her dress floating down instead of up?) when WHAP! she takes out an innocent octopus with her huge Louis Vuitton handbag.
Cover looks better in thumbnail but still doesn’t make any sense why the image is sideways (the light-source splash circles suggests “up” to the surface is on the left side of the cover)or why her dress is sinking down instead of floating up-ish like (some of) her hair. I like the motion/position of the woman; it has tension and suggests the conflict between the value of the bag against her own safety. Pity it wasn’t executed better. Any what are those blue globs on the rocks?
