The concept could work if better executed, but please, please, do not put red text on black. And don’t get overly clever with placement if it ends up making the title unreadable. And avoid horizontal text as it’s hard to read, too. I don’t hate the font, but that might be because I have unreliable font judgement.

I am waiting for a book cover to touch all bases on lousy.
_ Dark orange-on-black as the new red-on-black for unreadable title.
_ Tiny gray on dark gray author and tagline text
_ Vertical text lines (most folks can read a one or two word title vertical but not lines of text)
_ At thumbnail ad size art is WTF? and title, tagline and byline, unreadable.
