Actually, none are Confucian sages. The central figure is Sung Kao-tsung (the first Emperoro of the Northern Sung Dynasty), while the other two are Li K’ai-men and Han Lin, both semi-historical figures. This is the 4th book in the series covering material in my doctoral dissertation from Columbia University. The 5 books in the group (The Southern Swallow – Nan Ya) have been in progressfor 37 years, but because I had a busiy life as a corporate director, nothing ever got completed or finished until I was downsized in 2002 and had plenty of time to complete old projects, start new one and, of course, create lousy book covers. I did mention I was in marketing and in charge of reviewing Ad art.

A cover in search of a single purpose if ever I’ve seen one. (Cheesy) Mixed art styles for the portraits over a photograph with a modern vibe. And the whole thing is hairy! This thing clearly needs a trim…and taste.

I just took a bite of the cover and you’re right, tastes hairy and needs a trim. lol. The background was never satisfactory for me – a portion of the story takes place on tropical Hainan Island where the protagonist is exited for a few decades. But as a 4th book in a series, the cover is for me and the readers of the first 3 books. They’re still reading and asking for book 5, which will not be out until then end of 2015, having 2 books before it, one a trim 700 pager.
