So, is the blue guy above the words the NY Times bestseller or is it the feeble shocking green name at the bottom?
Methinks a real former bestseller would have an agent who would smother this cover travesty in its infancy.
If you click through the link, it appears the cover’s already been updated (well). Richard’s novel “Wired” did ridiculously well for, like, a year. Maybe he already used those royalties to hire a better designer.

All of his books are apparently self-published as by “Paragon Press.” His recent “Prometheus” series uses stock art by Alan Gutierrez, which is good, but, like too many other self-publishing authors, he cannot leave a good painting alone and clutters up the cover of “Prometheus Project, Book I” with extraneous figures.
