I was assuming a knife because of the Glimmer Steel Saga tag at the bottom. Also whatever is attached to the top of the thing is either the melty haft of a feather-knife, or a tapeworm. Which ewww. I’d much rather a ferret, though.

Bah, that glimmery thing is Destiny, his true love. She’s a partially invisible troll. You can just make out one blue eye, her sparkly smile, and the wonderful feather in her invisible hair that’s dangling over her other eye.
