The sad part is, with much better art this would’ve nailed it. Surprised you didn’t hit them on the plastic people, though; I recognize the guy’s jacket as a standard Poser texture.
Eh, it’s not poser or bryce or daz studio or any other program’s fault, any more than the crappy photoshop jobs are photoshop’s fault. In this case it’s pretty much been smudged and blurred and painted over to the point it’s unrecognizable, so might as well blame photoshop or gimp. It’s bad art that’s the problem, not the program used to make the bad art. And I agree, if they’d had better art this could have been a very good cover. I just wish they’d put the same effort they gave the girl’s hair into the rest of the image.
Well, yeah, bad art is bad art, but I’m just wondering why they used a dynamic hair mesh for her hair and a static mesh for clothing that should have been dynamic. Just my thoughts; in the end, better art would have fixed this and this ain’t it.
Fair enough. The point I was making badly was that, in this case, it wasn’t lousy use of 3d models that made the art bad. They’re not obviously rendered unless you know exactly what to look for, hence no pseudohumans tag. Sorry for not making that more clear. Many of these covers make me want to show the artists the basic how to tutorial sites…
I’m still lost on why she’s not patching up his leg usefully.
The title is nice, and, well, the background behind the title before it all falls apart.
Certainly not the worst book cover I’ve ever seen.
If the wolves were wearing ice skates I might read the book.
I feel silly for believing emergency first aid involved applying pressure to an open, bleeding leg wound. Gentle acupressure to the shoulder is what’s needed, and it’ll also ensure your dry clean only jacket will remain a pristine white.
They missed a GREAT opportunity by not using the shard for one side of the A.
A professional would not have avec screwed that up.
This font always makes me angry. That’s not what a capital N is supposed to look like. >:(
I like the idea for this one, with some more work it could be pretty good. The title treatment is pretty cool.
Technical issues aside, the style of the figures seems out of place for a sci-fi book. And according to the description, the book seems to be about a time-travelling boy who saves the universe (or something like that), so I’m confused why the cover features a girl and a dead ice skater.
“Yaay!” thought Tonya Harding. “Now I can just make it look like THEY did it!”
Also… is the ‘Naissance a bit like a posh version of the ‘hood?
