Please do not use red type if you don’t know what you’re doing. This looks like a non-fiction book, but from the blurb sounds like a novel, and reads suspiciously like he wrote it himself, as well. Big fail all around.

Wrote the blurb himself is what I meant to say.

Agreed. Especially the blurb attributed to Booklist.

Also like the exclamation point at the end of the sub-genre. And wonder if he bought rights to the photo or just stole it from somewhere without permission?

And while those two individuals are certainly relevant to the Cold War, I have to wonder (1) what they have to do with London and (2) why the author chose a photo where they look like they’re on good terms with one another (not very evocative of a “cold war”…).

Oh yes, and why can’t the author center the subtitle and sub-genre under the main title?

The cover needs more hype and blurbs. And the “By UPPER CASE AUTHOR NAME” needs to be bigger.

Oh, wait…

If I were Ludlum or Clancy I’d sue for associating my name with this sh!t without permission. (Cos if permission would’ve been sought the answer would’ve been the No! Heard ’round the world.)

Old Noel might know a few things but book design ain’t one of ’em. And heaven help us if the cover’s this much of a fail the inside’s unlikely to be any more professional.

Ludlum’s been dead since 2001 and Tom Clancy died in late 2013. Maybe Noel was waiting to pounce with his new edition (complete with hubris-laden cover quote) until Clancy wasn’t around anymore to call him on it?

More of a nitpick but that picture is from Reykjavik not London. I don’t think they were ever in London at the same time.

What I can make out says “A few notches (something something) Ludlums and (something something) Booklist.”
