I disagree. The watercolor, AS A BOOK COVER, is inadequate. Look at the human figure and face, which are at the focal point of the layout, and tell me that this works as an advertisement for the book.
The watercolour would work very well as a thumbnail to show a professional illustrator and say “I want this”.
I can’t quite make out the signature on the picture, but it looks like “April Gross” — what’s the betting it’s the author’s daughter (or possibly niece)?
Actually, the font I like. The watercolor is okay, but as Nathan said, not book cover quality. Especially the dog, which is an indistinct black shape. Watercolors are hard. There’s a reason I rarely attempt them, haha.
I agree with your assessments almost across the board, but I actually like this one. It’s well balanced, nothing’s out of place, and it has the feel of an 80’s children’s book. Sure, it could be tweaked to be made a little better, but I don’t think it’s bad as is.
Actually the watercolor could work well IF title, author name and that ‘signature’ wouldn’t be in watercolor also. Just my opinion …
Yes, the watercolour is nice enough to be passable. The bad font work and the random signature ruin this.
Agreed. Especially the part that says “Mage Volu”…

I keep forgetting that the best of the worst are still the worst!

Yup, I like the graphics, but heaven help the wimpy fontiness.
