You know, this is far above most of the bad covers we see here. A little tweaking couldn’t hurt. But IMO this is serviceable as is.

The map in the background works for me, the letter and bloody knife are good with the map, but the ship is a big ugly overlay that’s at first hard to make out. And it also bugs me that the ship isn’t the same era as the map or the letter–it seems more modern and “industrial” which clashes with the letter and map and the title. And dude, pick a font, maybe two, that express the genre and are easy to read in thumbnail (on a busy background), ‘K?

: How to stab a ship….Bwahahahahahahaha!

I agree, three fonts is at least one too many. And I don’t like the red.

“Sorry, Lisa, I forgot to use spell check on the cover text.”

Confessions of an inept copy editor.

Wait a minute, who’s doing the photobombing? Kinife or ship?

The writing on that paper is kind of blurry, but I think it says “P apyrus goes with squashed chunky Trajan about as well as a hovering zero-gravity paint-drizzled knife goes with a half-transparent ur-Titanic. — Love, Mom”

I like the map a lot. I would like to see more focus on it.
