Considering News of the World went down in flames due to a phone hacking scandal, I don’t think using them for a cover blurb helps any.
Banged Up Abroad Raving Arizona? What is THAT supposed to mean?
(And is that how clear the inside text is?)
Apparently the guy’s story featured in a British TV show called *Banged Up Abroad*, in an episode called *Raving Arizona*. Which is fine for people who know that, but confusing for anyone that doesn’t.
Both editions of the book “Life with Sheriff Joe Arpaio in America’s Toughest Jail” and “Banged Up Abroad Raving Arizona” are listed at Amazon.com and Amazon.co.UK with different covers.
The Amazon listing says “…Locked Up…” and the bleeping cover says “…Banged Up…”. I guess you can get banged up while locked up, but should not the title match the cover or vice versa?
Because you are an idiot. Obviously.
The Amazon.Co.UK listing gives the title as “Hard Time: Banged Up Abroad Raving Arizona, 2nd Edition (The English Shaun Trilogy)”
banged up (idiomatic) Spending time in prison or jail.
So they translated the title to ‘Locked Up’ for clarity in the Amazon USA listing, since “banged up” also means damaged or injured. Never heard “banged up” used for “locked up” myself. LBC: an international learning experience.
Shaun came to America, put together raves and sold Ecstacy, got arrested and incarcerated in Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s jail in Arizona and has written a trilogy about the injustice and hardship he has endured. (Can we spell self-serving unreliable narrator?)”Prison Time” and “Party Time” apparently are the other parts of the trio.
“Can we spell self-serving unreliable narrator?”
Which is why I’ve never had much time for prison memoirs.
First Edition was entitled “Hard Time: Life with Sheriff Joe Arpaio in America’s Toughest Jail” much different cover.
I think the idea perhaps had merit, but unfortunately it was beyond the skills of the designer. The drawing of the guy doing yoga I quite like.
