What is with all the strange high school covers that I am seeing lately? Among others, I write vampire characters into my odd assortment of characters and I have received a single bad review her. But WTF? I like to think that I learn from this place. I have it on my rss feed. This is one of the stupidest covers I have seen. Someone needs to kick all these idiots in the face … Oh, right. (grin) this place does. (pandering, please look at my company page and tell me what to fix)

My favorite sentence from the book sample:

“Silence yelled across the area.”

The author is obviously in high school, and he probably thinks this kind of writing is amazing. I cringe to think of the abuse his ego is about to endure.

I have seen too many authors who feel that way. I have a one star review on one of my novels from an “author” who spammed my forum and posted a chapter. A full chapter, in which the orcs get an extended description in the middle of a fight scene and he was out for blood because I pointed it out. It isn’t just the covers that are causing trouble, it seems to be the attitude of the self or vanity publishers to begin with.

Yipes, that image is Clipart for Microsoft word. I know because I used it when making labels for some Halloween fudge I gave my friends a few years ago. The really stretched her out though – she looks like a demonic Liza Minnelli
