Now I KNOW that I’ve been on LBC too long (okay, so it was only 6 months) when I see stuff like these and say: “Hmmm, that’s not TOO lousy.”
I think I’m trying to hard to see the positives in this covers. I don’t like the subtitle, though. I think I would prefer “The Secrets of Artasia: Book 1”. But that’s just my silly old opinion.
For my money it’s a bit too “on the nose”, just laying the titular stones out in front of us. Doesn’t really pique my interest, but then I consider gemstones to be a rather overused fantasy trope.
And I’m only now noticing the forest behind them. I’d thought they were lying on a wooden table.
But you’re right, this is probably one of the better covers on this site. It doesn’t make me recoil and go “Why would you do this?!” the way a lot of them do.

“Go go Pow-er Sto-ones!”
But where’s the White Power Stone?
Don’t be a racist, L-Plate!
