Horror in Bloom

A cover for everyone who’s ever said, “I don’t care who’s in the book, but who did the art?

The concept is interesting. The font makes me wonder where the giant singing lips are.

Like the art. Am ambivalent about the font. And the font color.

I mean…no pun intended–it’s gilding the lily, ain’t it? We are already “getting” the horror, from Frank’s face in the (evil little) butterfly wings, right? (You want horror? Study butterflies, trust me. Original vampires.)

Hmmmmmm….thinking about what font I would have gone with, here. It’s worth thinking about, because I do like the art.

(Nathan, oh fearless leader–why IS this here?)

Because the author’s name isn’t mentioned at all but the artist’s is? Agree about the art though. Have no clue about the font except it needs to change.

I peeked. “Horror in Bloom” with sole credit “Art by…” gave me the impression it might be a book of art. It’s an anthology, stories by divers hands.

It so does belong here.

1. using a strongly recognisable custom font from a copyrighted property – nope; unless your book is about the making of Rocky Horror, or Tim Curry’s make up tips or some such.

2. Aspect ratio. Let’s take a pretty OK bit of artwork and squash it, because how else would you know this is the book I makes myself?

3. Written by ?

Interesting mismatch between the title and the image: even though it’s called “Horror in Bloom” the flowers are pushed off to the side to make room for the skull-butterflies and eggs.

And correct me if I’m wrong – but don’t butterflies hatch from cocoons (or chrysalisesI would have bet money that would be chrysalae)?

Not eggs.

Not even scary eggs.
