It looks a bit like lacquered bamboo or rattan — and I mean that in a good way. It doesn’t work so well for the author’s name though.

For a children’s book it really isn’t that bad of a cover…well…except the fonts and the stars. While it may not appeal to adults, I think it would definitely appeal to children.

The overall design is great, and the primitivist execution totally works for me. Even the font is OK as long as you don’t look too closely.
I’d happily be caught reading this on the subway.

Being a children’s book is not an excuse for bad cover design.
Children’s book or not, it’s a pretty amateurish cover.
