D’oh! It figures one best book covers you’ve highlighted used a pirated picture. Something’s also wonky with the author’s name font.

When the designer makes the hi res version it will be nice. Also hope he/she closes up the kerning between the A and Y in BAYOU. (Yes, I know, I’m always complaining about kerning.) Also could use a blurb up top.

PAY FOR YOUR STOCK PICTURES PEOPLE

In the first moment I thought, ‘wow, I’ve seen so many bad covers this one is good’. But then I also noticed the kerning and thought that was the issue . . . then you mentioned the stock photo watermark and I AM SO OUTRAGED THAT SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO EARN MONEY FROM CREATIVE PURSUITS WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE WORK OF SOMEONE ELSE WHO WANTS TO MAKE A LIVING FROM CREATIVE PURSUITS.

Or maybe they made a huge mistake and forgot to swap over the comp image for the paid one? I dunno, I guess I always try and give someone the benefit of the doubt.

For the record, I have used heaps of stock images to make my cover, and I paid for every darn one of them.

I’ve shot my mouth off and I apologise. Here is the Amazon page with the clean cover and much nicer font for the author

Cover is really nice, hope the watermarking was an error and gets fixed soon. 🙂

One of the best and appropriate covers so far on this site, too bad about the watermark and the kerning.

Hey, if you look at the paperback and hardback versions on Amazon, you can see the watermark is not there. Somebody probably uploaded the wrong version. I know a lot of book designers show a mockup with unpurchased art, and then when the client approves it they buy the art. Since two versions don’t have the watermark, I’m guessing it was purchased and this was an error. And I have no association with this cover, or with the author or artist. Just FYI.
