So many layers…
£octornyia
Wait, hang on. It has the author’s name on it *twice*
Well, DUH, that’s cuz it’s a COLLECTOR’S edition, bozo. Sheesh, don’tcha know anything?
These titles are initially confusing.

This one is the LARGE PRINT EDITION.
Now a few completists out there will just want to have both the small print and large print editions to complete their collections, won’t you?
OK. I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, you guys know I do. But, I’m a perfeshnul maker of eBooks. And as much as I dislike disappointing you, and telling you things (like, there is no Santa Claus)….there’s no such thing as an “original” eBook. There are no collector’s “editions.”
They are simply copies, boys and girls. Copies of files. Just like what happens if you copy a file on your computer. So…ixnay on the “collector’s editions,” because by definition, they are NOT LIMITED IN NUMBER. {sigh}. (Does anyone else think that daft is not a good enough word to describe this?)
> But, I’m a perfeshnul maker of eBooks . . . there’s no such thing as an “original” eBook. . .
Now you got me wondering where e-books come from.
Well, you see, Red, when a mommy manuscript and a daddy digital file love each other very much….
‘K, sure. Next you’ll be telling us there’s no Spam Fairy.
This “Collector’s Edition One” is listed as a Large Print paperback (230 pages) through CreateSpace a print-on-demand service.
It’s the “Series one Collector’s Edition” that is a small print Kindle e-book (148 pages) through Amazon Digital Services.
Is it possible to limit paperback run size through a print-on-demand service like CreateSpace? Can the Kindle edition downloads be limited in number? Should the unlimited Kindle edition of a limited print run be billed as a Collector’s Edition? I suspect no.
Can amateur self-publishing drive folks familiar with the professional standards of traditional publishers crazy? Mwah-ha-ha beeble dweeble. You betcha. (For the record, I was involved in typesetting at a large book manyfacturer 1969-2003. Sometimes observing the indie small press is like watching kindergartners at play.)

This is something I’m interested in as a personal research project. During about that time frame books changed from being something I could read all day into things that put me to sleep in less than 20 minutes. I’m trying to understand what the important factors are, considering all the changes that took place in those years. Old books are still no problem, even reading scans of old books on an e-reader is no problem, so I know the problem isn’t me.
I have the same problem with DVD movies recorded off satellite. If I start watching “Alligator People” or “Gigantis: The Fire Monster” or “It: The Terror From Beyond Space” on DVD while in to bed, the opening exposition narrative usually puts me to sleep, but if I wake up in the middle of “Them”, “Pandorum” or “Zardoz”, I stay awake for hours. Test Baker of Operation Crossroads, underwater A-bomb test (“Rodan:, “Beast from 20,00 Fathoms”, “Bikini Beach Babes Bingo”) has the same sleep inducing effect. I hope this info helps your research project.
Mystery solved!
(Btw, I’m not suggesting it’s your fault, either.)
Nothing bad is ever my fault. All things good, however, should be to my credit. My fourth grade teacher disagreed, but she’s dead, so who cares.
ZING!
