I do have fond memories of Fawcett Gold Medal Books, but you knew what you were getting: original paperback gold by the likes of John D. MacDonald, William Goldman, and Kurt Vonnegut, picked by a qualified former Collier’s editor.
In a way, bought faux awards stickers let you know what you are getting, too.

If they had simply stuck with the pretty picture of the Golden Gate and dropped everything else this cover might have been doable.
