I wonder if some condition should be added to the public domain rules. Perhaps something like a requirement that anyone who reprints the work at least show some respect for the source material, and not do a slapdash job that makes people NOT want to buy/read it.
Nah… These things tend to self-correct. Nobody actually interested in reading L. Frank Baum’s work would opt for this one; they’d check out an edition that at least looks like some effort was made to produce a quality product.
