“Lord, it’s the devil
Would you look at him?
I’ve heard about him
But I never dreamed
He’d have blue eyes and blue jeans” – one of the few country songs I like, Terry Gibbs’ “Somebody’s Knockin'” (1981)
Then you’re not listening to the right country songs! It took me some time–a born rocker, right?–but eventually, I learned that there’s a large swath of really great country out there. I mean, who doesn’t love (the now disbanded) Big & Rich, even?
Never heard of them, but I will check it out. I admit that I like Kenny Rogers, and some of Little Texas (“What Might Have Been”). I also went through a couple of Glenn Campbell’s “Rhinestone Cowboy” 45 records when I was younger – and I still like the song 🙂
Seriously? Big ‘n Rich were around and enormously popular some years back, around 2000-2005, I think (“Save a horse, ride a cowboy” is I think their most famous tune) and it’s an interesting melange of different types of music–Country + HipHop/Rap.
They’re not like Kenny Rogers and/or Glenn Campbell, they’re not really crooners. If you like rock, or hiphop, or modern country, you may like them.
