New Covers For Old 2021, Day XVI

The second round of voting for the first annual Lousies awards will settle for once and all the important question: Whose cuisine will reign supreme? [checks notes] Wait, that can’t be right…

In today’s installment of New Covers For Old 2021, there are so many substantive improvements on display that those couple of “fix everything but the problem” revisions stand out like turds in the punchbowl.

I feel like longing for love managed to get worse, somehow

I just want to know why “for” was the word that got emphasized on the new cover. Was the author afraid that it might be mistaken for another preposition? Was she worried that people would confuse this book with “Longing at Love” or “Longing in the general vicinity of Love”?

Call me crazy, but I really like both Star Borne covers (I hate all the typefaces at bottom though). I know those are lousy but I like them and I don’t know why…

Thunder’s Keeper—I like this one! I only wish that the author’s name were not in a thin red typeface against a dark background.
Murphy—Nice idea, but too obviously cut and paste. And it could lose the moon.
Longing—Nope
Something in the Woods—Well, this one nearly works…Needs improvement in line spacing for real.
Alien—Went from awful to just plain boring.
Unsolvable—A nice image sabotaged by clumsy typography and design
Gemini—Nope
Shelter—I have absolutely no idea what’s supposed to be going on
Star Borne—It’s just all over the place…
Angel—Nope

Alas, that “something in the woods” must have taken all decent cover designers out of the author’s reach.
