It hurts more than scares. Gotta be honest. That 4-eyed girl is painful.

I know. I can’t look at it without thinking my contact lenses slipped into a weird position.

I don’t wear glasses, but it still hurts to look at that image.

It feels like my eyes went cross-eyed and are desperately trying to re-focus. And then go WTF when they fail.

Serious eye pain here as well. I guess that was the effect they were after?

If the desired effect is for a potential reader to go look at something less painful, it’s a very weird marketing technique.

Actually, if they just used the weird four-eyed two-eyed image, it’d be unsettling and effective enough on its own.

If it were just the 4-eyed, 2-nosed girl, that did scare me at first, but then I couldn’t even look at it. My eyeballs are too busy bouncing around. Maybe if only the eyeballs were doubled, not the nose?

That’s it! The doubled nose makes the image impossible to look at.

Great idea for a cover.
Not.

Did the girl in yellow see a haunted mouse and climb the walls to avoid it?

I love the skulls border the most! (It does a lot to counteract any spooky effect the rest of the pictures might have for me.)

So that’s what all those other kids were seeing back in grade school. What on earth was wrong with them?

Horrifying. But not for the reasons intended.
