Yeah, the female character held some promise- would have been better served if she was cut out and put on some dynamic abstract background – make use of glowing speedometer dials, light trails, creative use of motion blur – anything but this. God, why do people use this boring template SO so much?!
I agree with you except for the part about the girl holding promise. In my eyes, you lose all credibility as a thriller if your cover character is basically pointing the gun at their own head. It looks like they handed a gun to someone who has never held one before and said, “Stand there while I take a picture.”

You know, it was a subtl detail, but now I can’t unsee it, the angle of the gun is just far over enough that it ruins it, you’re right.
