Note to lousy cover designers: please, for the love of God, Allah, Cthulhu, the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or whatever higher power you worship, stop putting creepy babies on your cover. These poor children don’t deserve that.
That baby’s photo was not created using a historically accurate process! It would be more like a daguerreotype : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daguerreotype.
