“Catch a whiff on me, that ain’t no rose; roll up the window and hold your nose…”

The swirling smoke, non-plural rose, and random sword ALL distract from the title’s concept. More is not better. Ever.

Wrong – like I just said over on White Jade Reaper, this world is all like “more is never enough!”

Pile it on!
Slap some semi-transparent layers on there!
Tweak all the stars until they look like hearts!
Hide Wolfie in the swirls of some tree bark!
Never stop at one pair of floating, disembodied eyes. Two is always better than one!
Still missing that special “Ooomph?” Bare-chested & headless torsos are always appropriate – even on medical journal articles about Measles.
Symmetry is for losers!
So is Empty Space!
If you have empty space, you are Doing. It. Wrong!

I hope you’ve learned your lesson, Kris. Just because it’s static text and supposed to represent a “book” (what is a book anymore, anyhow? Really? It’s all ones and zeroes now) doesn’t mean it can’t be improved with some screwy perspective warping aspect ratio squeezing tinkering.

Give it a try.

This site really makes me love Salinger’s insistence on a plain red cover with gold text for one of his books.

You can all picture it right now, can’t you? It would have been so much better if they had just used Comic Sans.

Lost Roses.

I hear Criswell in my mind’s ear:

“The ever-beautiful flowers she had planted with her own hands became nothing more than the lost roses of her cheeks.”

Maybe it’s just me and my youth wasted on B-movies, but a title that reminds me of Plan 9 From Outer Space just does not work.

(If not an Edit mode, a Preview mode would be a nice addition to the commentary box.)

That ‘L’ is so loopy that I thought it was an ‘R’ at first: Rost Roses. Combine that with the samurai sword and you’ve got unintentional racism!

At first glance I didn’t realize that was smoke in the background and instead thought it was a large X-ray of … something.

Is that a phone cord I see in the lower left hand side?

“Is this a phone cord which I see before me, the coils toward my left hand? Come, let me clutch thee. I have thee not, and yet I see thee still. Art thou not, fatal vision, sensible to feeling as to sight? Or art thou but a swirl of photoshop, a false creation, proceeding from the heat-oppressed brain?”

Loops too big for a phone chord. Looks like a suspension coil to me. Too regular to be wisps of smoke.

Swirling smoke? Um… OK, maybe, I guess.

It still looks like an X-ray to me, but I can’t guess what part of the body. I think I see a pelvis and a couple of leg bones.

Also an ampersand and a repeat of that rose. Somebody’s been playing around with “smoke” filters in Photoshop.

All right, not a repeat of THAT rose. But still definitely a rose.
