Mark of the Lash

This is what happens when someone knows the “how” of PhotoShop, but not the “why.”

But–the guns! What’s up with the guns?

I’m confused about how the guns are a lighter color, which would suggest they were somehow in the background (under the whip). Only, the lines of part of the gun barrels can be seen where they intersect with the whip, suggesting the gun barrels are on top of the whip. Or else that the whip is transparent.

Guns are not whips. Clearly the author has no clue.

It’s a distinctive cover. I’ll grant it that.

It would be much better without the guns.

Yes. And maybe the whip versus text need a little repositioning.

I never really understood about font choice and typography’s effects until I started following this blog. I always figured, ‘meh, words are words.’

How much I’ve learned.

I’m actually toying with the idea of making my own book cover when I’m ready to publish, so I’ve been doing lots of research–this website has been invaluable.

Font matters way more than I ever thought it would. A boring cover like this could have been saved by doing something other than Times.

Okay, I actually posted my previous comment on the wrong cover. Oops. But the font in this one is terrible too. The other stuff is questionable, but the font is really what kills it.
