Kids’ Multilingual Picture Dictionary: Volume 1, A – F

Whoa, dude. Dictionaries have authors? (And why is Japanese the only one that includes its non-English name?)

What a weirdly random selection of languages. I just had to check – being Finnish, and bingo, you got the VERY FIRST entry wrong: abacus is helmitaulu in Finnish, neither of the alternatives given.

Well, it doesn’t make any claims about the languages being right. A minor detail, really, as it’s a picture dictionary for kids who can’t read, I’m guessing. Wait. What?

The birds on the cover become more distorted as they go down. The one at the bottom looks like it has been sat upon.

Because birds speak a lot of languages?

Just as a footnote: Of course dictionaries can have authors, as I am sure Noah Webster and Samuel Johnson would agree.
