After the flora of Betelgeuse IV proved unexpectedly toxic to horses, the more courageous of the Amish colonists experimented with the taming of the native Giant Tapirwolves.
You guys…it’s OBVIOUSLY a Steampunk novel set in Lancaster County, PA, and it’s a self-driving carriage, with a robotic Tapirwolf (credit: Monica, for such an apt description) providing the power.
