So… um… what???

Torture of lousy cover art.

Book blurb (based on cover and title):

Petraclif’s regime of torture takes a new horrific turn when he orders prisoners be overfed and fattened into obesity. His latest cruel punishment destroys prisoners’ self-esteem and subverts body-image perceptions until they break. Don’t miss this espionage thriller full of murder, mayhem, torture, and high-fat gourmet meals.

Subverts body-image perceptions? Oh the *yawn* inhumanity.

This “thriller” sounds as compelling as watching grass grow in real time.

That was my tongue-in-cheek description. Seriously, it’s much better than the author’s actual one, which I ventured over to read after I wrote the above. The author’s actual blurb, like this cover, aren’t going to make this a bestseller.

This cover is certainly not worth it’s weight in gold.

Is the background ground meat or red colored instant raman noodles?

It’s hamburger meat of course or someone likes blood on their ramen. What’s with the bloody scale? Torture Of Girth huh? Evidently someone had too much and exploded.

It looks like some ugly ’70s red shag carpet to me. I clearly have my own unique view on things.

It is a lot of girth.
Don’t torture yourself over it.
Perhaps a 20 minute break is in order.
Maybe take a hot bath.
Relax.
Don’t think about it.
Just relax.
Start out slow.
Then try that girth again! You might just surprise yourself.

Shylock wants his pound of flesh and he is going to cut it out while you are standing on the scale.

The bloodspattered scale might have been OK with some more sympathetic treatment instead of the garish border and awful font.

Thanks for sharing your impressions of the cover. I’ve made some changes to the cover. The new cover will go live on Amazon in the next day or so. I removed the border, which few people seem to recognize as ground meat. The natural color of ground meat did not work well in the overall design; but, conversely, the filtered ultra red ground meat looks like too many other things besides ground meat. I think it’s distracting and creates a slightly confusing and scattered first impression. I toned down the ground meat texture in the text. I know some of you will still dislike the overstated text/font. But the book itself is pretty loud. I think this cover conveys the character of the novel itself, which has all the same problems or assets, depending on your point of view. Based on your comments, I also rethought the book description. Of course, it’s taken me a while to come around; and I still haven’t sanded away all the rough edges. But thanks for singling out my cover. Your feedback has been helpful to me.
