Acacia Crescent

Acacia Crescent

The photo idea is cute, but the type treatment just dooms it.

Remember when the old movies would splash writing on the screen for the upcoming horror flicks? That font looks like the fifties horror previews!

And the kerning is suck-a-rific. Kudos to the “artist” for getting the saucer’s shadow in the right ballpark–or for giving it a shadow at all.

‘Ac acia Crescent’? Shouldn’t that be somewhere in suburbia? This looks more like ‘County Road, Texas’. Did this book somehow end up with the wrong title?

Is it just me, or does he look like he just threw a UFO frisbee?

I am not a writer so I’m new to some terminology but I gather ‘kerning’ means visually appropriate letter spacing. If I’m correct, this cover just has it in spades doesn’t it? (Snicker)

The kerning is so bad that it’s easier to read ATUT than the actual subtitle.

Maybe acronyms are the new cover title meme?

At least the cover artist was smart enough to put shadows in.

Redo the text and it’s a pretty good cover. I’d make me want to browse it.

The kerning is the only thing that’s really bad with this cover. The artist remembered to include shadows and got them to line up. The person in the photo is looking in the right direction, too. I don’t mind the font choice at all, if it’s meant in an ironic 1950’s scary movie way. As for photoshopped UFOs, that one is pretty good and fitting for the font choice.

If it wasn’t for the kerning, I don’t think this cover would deserve to be here. I’m not saying it’s great, just not up to par with the tsunami of crappy covers that fills this blog.
