Perhaps if the snowman’s arms and the cat’s stripes weren’t blood red, this wouldn’t come across as a Christmas horror tale.

I agree that the hair was not really necessary. Assuming this is a happy tale, putting a traditional top hat on the snow man would have been more appropriate. Also, having the stripes on the cat the same color as the snow man’s arms did make the embrace a bit confusing. Make the cat’s stripes brown and this would have been clearer.
