Maybe Rube Goldberg, too. I keep expecting The Shadow to pull on that root and tighten up the lasso she is standing in. I hope she doesn’t fall on that platypus in front of her, tho.
I remembered my confusion over the title “Raise High the Roofbeam, Carpenters and Seymour” (turned out to be two novellas, “Raise High the Roofbeam, Carpenters” plus “Seymour”, in one book), but “Caused & Effect” is one novel, one title. ? (“Caused and Affected” would be a nice title.)
Girl to shrub: “Awright, shrub, one move and I’ll plug you!”
Shrub: “Ohmygod! There’s something horrible sneaking up behind you!”
Girl: “Ha! You don’t expect me to fall for that one, do you?”
Ooooo, a tree mugger!
Is there also someone sneaking up on whoever is casting that shadow while sneaking up on the first figure?
Why is there a duck topiary in the background?
Why isn’t the title “Caused & Effected”?
So many questions . . .
I would answer your questions, but nothing is clear. Literally.
Topiary? I see silhouettes: a dodo bird sitting down, and floating over the bird a kneeling child facing a cat arching its back.
I just see a girly-boy casting no shadow, and a shadow behind her… It’s just such a blur…
And the direction of the light on the figure and the direction of the shadow of whatever is behind the figure don’t match.
Not to mention the two turkeys standing on a log.
I wonder if the cover artist is related to Hermann Rorschach?

Caused I said so.
