There’s actually 43 Californian individuals and groups in the book (e.g. William Randolph Hearst, Black Panthers, et al.)
Who’s the woman? The only women with chapters are Lola Montez and Isadora Duncan (who is listed in the ToC as Isidora Duncan: if they didn’t proofread the table of contents, what does that imply about the rest of the book?).
Is California the 7th person?
Maybe the seventh person is Jack Adler (named) plus the six persons pictured.
I must admit that the title ‘The Seventh Person’ is catchy.
Who’s the woman?
The mystique = why does everyone in California have a weirdly shaped head?
The nearness of California to nuclear test sites?
One of us can’t count, because I only see six people.
