I think it’s okay, just needs a little work. I really admire that you are being a good sport about it. A lot of people have trouble with that concept. 🙂
Hey, it’s the internet, everyone’s got an opinion. I’m hoping to engage for constructive feedback, is all. I’m going to publish another book in the series, using art from the same artist, whose work I will fiercely defend. 🙂 The new art is more ‘magic’ and less ‘noir’, but my main worry about it is that it doesn’t have a single central focus; rather, it’s got several characters in front of a recognizable landmark. This is partly by design; it will be a collection of character-centric short stories.
It sort of works . . .
and then you scroll down and it doesn’t.
I’m sorry you folks don’t like it. But thanks for linking the book! 🙂

To be clear: the ‘design’ of the next artwork is mine, not the artist’s; the commission was executed brilliantly IMO. 🙂
I would say that the design is fine, but the execution needs work:
– The inconsistent perspective on the Empire State Building calls attention to itself with the rows of lighted windows
– The figure seems out of proportion, unless he is a) a hobbit, or b) Michael Landon wearing Elvis’s bell-bottoms.
Also, the white edge around the figure makes him look like a cardboard cutout.
The font is okay, the picture works, it is just the figure detracts from the idea of magic making it seem like a mundane noir detective story.
