Cute couple. They might’ve made a great cover if they weren’t shoved into a corner. There’s potential here, and with some decent font, less awful title and better treatment of the photo it might turn into something (I just realized I’m basically saying “keep the photo and ditch everything else” :/ ). But after seeing the rest of the author’s covers, I’m starting to believe that bad titles in bad fonts and bad colors are this author’s “branding”. Sigh.
Also, I’m developing an irrational hatred towards the Mail Order Bride subgenre. Don’t know why.
I know, I took a gander at them too. This author likes her long and overly-complicated titles, doesn’t she? My particular ‘favourite’ is ‘Mail Order Bride: The Pregnant High Society Woman & The Real Rancher.’
That green font’s making my eyes cross.
This is like the Opti-Grab of book covers.

I can’t feel that there’s any salvaging this photo for this book. Mainly due to the very modern style of top and bra strap visible on the heroine, and the fact that even a prostitute from the era when mail-order brides in the West were a thing would not go around with her underclothes showing. The hero’s hairstyle and unbuttoned shirt don’t work for the period, either.
Looking backward: almost all “Mail Order Bride” title listed here has something a-historic about the cover.
11 Mar 2016. Helen Keating, Mail Order Bride: Life Lessons Taught To The Widow By The Colorado Cowboy
12 Jan 2016. Martha Caldwell, Mail Order Bride: Captured By Indians, Rescued By Her Heroic Cowboy
25 Sep 2015. Vanessa Carvo, Mail Order Bride: Guardian Angel With A Gun
20 Sep 2015. Doreen Milstead, Mail Order Bride: Walking To The Six Gun Samurai Cowboy
11 Dec 2014. Victoria Otto, Mail Order Bride: The Pastor’s Bible Brings True Love And Marriage
23 Nov 2014. Brynd Wilder, The Rejected Mail Order Bride
21 Nov 2014. Linda Bridey, Mail Order Bride: Westward Winds, Montana Mail Order Brides #1
(Westward Winds: is that Rick Grimes of Walking Dead?)
The Rejected mail order bride? Man, where do those go? I’ve heard of the dead letter department, but I’m pretty sure I’d have heard of the Lost Brides division. Return to Sender takes on a whole new meaning…

Why do you think it’s irrational?
Do Mail-Order Bride Widows get ordered from the “Gently Pre-Owned” section of the catalogue?
Maybe they’re trying to be “dadaist” by intentionally ruining their own covers

It seems to be a subgenre thing. The this and this bride and the that and that cowboy. It’s driving me crazy.

And if this is indeed historical fiction, the bridle for the horse appears to be made from nylon rather than traditional leather.

But his transparent T-shirt shows us that he is rock-solid beneath it.
