However, I believe I figured it out.
The lights are confusing, but they are not actually casting any shadows, despite what it looks like. The are a red herring to your sense of sight.
As they are not in the same pose, the shadows and the silhouettes are depicting different things. Jinkies!
The silhouettes are shaking hands, as at a negotiation table. The shadows are showing different intentions of the two characters. The one on the left has a sword and villainous clawed hand, so he is backstabbing the other guy over there, who has a shield sleeve.
It is doing a very bad job at the intended effect, it certainly could be executed far better.

Oh yes, it is all kinds of awful. No doubting that!
