Of the many inexplicable features of this cover, the one that really puzzles me is why the title is across the only semi-interesting part of the illustration.
I’m quite puzzled by that little square thing in the middle.
Opening the cover jpeg and zooming in, it appears to me to be the back cover of a book (text over an illustration).
Some crazy matting going on here – it looks like our artist actually cut a whole in his/her horrible art for the space scene.
Maybe it’s a rift in the space-time continuum. Still doesn’t explain that the only thing with edges is a book left on a ?river bank?.
