Typography and artwork aren’t too bad, except for the missing hands. Where are the beast’s hands/ hooves? And where is her other arm? I see her right shoulder but that arm just vanishes.
Oh, and why the three big pears hanging in a straight row? I wonder if that is supposed to have some significance within the story.
Eh, the typography and layout is fine, even good, but the artwork is just not up to snuff for a book cover, even if things EricL mentions were changed. I think something painterly would go better with the look of the rest of the cover. The author is an illustrator and graphic-multimedia designer, so it surprises me that the book ended up being published with this cover artwork.

The artwork could be a little bit better but overall I’m okay with this cover.
Looking back, this is a not so lousy book cover. Or, we have been looking at too many lousy book covers and our tastes have been blunted. I need to go browsing at a walking bookstore.
…walk-in bookstore…walk-in bookstore…
as in brick’n’mortar with books on shelves with covers and all (not an actually ambulatory bookstore–that was a typo)
