I think a picture of a tiki bar would have been more accurate. This is as far from “No Ka Oi!” as it gets.

A selfie of the protagonist or author? Maybe both?

It makes my heart hurt every time a well-meaning but ignorant writer throws thousands of dollars down that useless and evil vanity path.

It hurts yes, but least we forget it takes about 5 minutes of research to know not to do that. There is only so much feel bad that I can muster up for them. 🙁

As president of a local chapter of Romance Writers of America, I can tell you that there are newbie writers who are surprised to meet “other” authors, even in the 5th largest city in America.

They have NO idea how ignorant they are, and don’t seek us out until after vanity publishing.

The links would connect to central hubs and create a web if you will, the threads…

😀

I use that exact joke every time someone asks a ridiculous question no one knows the answer to in the room, but they could find the answer on their smartphone in a few seconds.

She is not happy about being on the cover. I’m getting a double stink-eye.

From the description: “While Clyde is treating a patient, he drowns, leaving Ina Marie and Leilani alone to fend for themselves.”

What, was he assisting with a water-birth?

She’s so unhappy she’s making me unhappy. I sure wouldn’t want to read a book about this sourpuss.

This looks like it is an unfortunate emulation of a cover style from about 1920.

I was immediately reminded of “Anne of the Island” (1915) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/8f/AnneOfTheIsland.jpg

and this 1927 cover of “The Architectural Forum”comment image

Grimm’s Fairy Tales (1927) http://artofnarrative.tumblr.com/post/17598973369/rie-cramer-grimms-fairy-tales-1927-via

and this jewel from 1913 http://artofnarrative.tumblr.com/post/96232834492/anne-anderson-cover-art-stories-from-chaucer .

Lol. Or Mary, as in “Haole Mary.”
