It made me think of Chariots of the Gods, so alternate earth history. Boy was I way off.

Must be thinking of the History Channel’s Ancient Aliens and the popular Area 51 Series of fiction (with a military component) by Amazon’s imprint. But even though I’m familiar with both, I wouldn’t have guessed that from the cover…

It made me think of Quezicotilspritzer, the ancient god of lemon-lime beverages.

When John joined the gods’ navy, he had no idea that they would make him wear a skirt as part of his uniform. But even worse, they made him wear a silly headdress, which made it so difficult to maneuver through the sub’s low passageways.

Yet who was he to say something negative? You dare not complain when the gods are in charge. He just hoped his request to transfer to a PT Boat came through.

John, however, had believed that he would stick it out…until he was handed the official sex toy for his branch of the service. At that point, he thought that perhaps–just perhaps–his girlfriend, Suzie, had been right in suggesting that he enlist with a different branch.

I wouldn’t have guessed it’s a military thriller for the simple reason that it isn’t. It’s a mystery about an ancient Aztec god. So, not such a bad cover.

From the description: “The only hint is the existence of posters of an obscure Aztec god that are found floating in the water near all sinking sites”
That’s your cover. Goes well with the description, I think. Amazon classifies this as “Books > Mystery, Thriller & Suspense > Mystery > Private Investigators” , not a military thriller.
